Welcome to the March edition of our newsletter where we recommend what to read, watch and listen to in the field of transformational leadership and organizational change. Additionally, this month we draw your attention to the final days of the Early Bird Discount for our October Annual Gathering of the Next Practice Institute.
To serve the world, we must start by cultivating our inner lives. On October 24, 2022, Mobius Co-Founder Amy Elizabeth Fox delivered the opening keynote address of the Annual Gathering of the Next Practice Institute. The following article is based on the transcript and provides an excellent overview of the zeitgeist across the leadership development industry, the work practitioners need to devote themselves to in order to be the instruments of healing and change, and the reasons why we come together at the Annual Gathering each year. The article is an excellent resource for those interested to join us for the first time at this year's event and in helping coaches and change practitioners explain the nature of the work we do at Mobius.
We are inspired to see the new research published in HBR by authors Ayse Yemiscigil, Dana Born and Horace Ling. They echo the efficacy of key principles that have always been the underpinnings our work at Mobius. In this recently published article, they name seven strategies that enable truly impactful executive development. Mobius is very proud of our collective efforts over the last eighteen years to shift our field from more shallow interventions to understanding the urgent need for vertical development – including immersive leadership retreats where senior executives transform their core fears, motivations, aspirations, skills for connection and authentic self-expression and meaningfully expand their own self-awareness, emotional intelligence and embodiment. Polarization is a term that few used only a couple of years ago – now people widely refer to the polarization or foundational disagreement that pervades public discourse in many of today’s democracies. What do countries and families have in common? In this video, renowned relationship expert, Ester Perel speaks with the historian and author Yuval Noah Harari about the micro and the macro examples of how we push other people to become ever-more extreme the more we refuse to listen. They explore what happens when we continue to humiliate segments of society. A vital conversation which also speaks directly to our featured book this month, Joe Weston’s much-awaited guide to Fierce Civility.
FEATURED INSPIRATION
In the Featured Events section, below, we highlight opportunities to develop ourselves, together, as practitioners who belong (or who seek to belong) to a wider community.
An upcoming four-day retreat, this summer in Switzerland, August 28-31, 2023 offered by senior practitioners within Mobius. The world needs deeply matured men – as fathers, husbands, friends, and leaders in pivotal roles in business and society. Men who can stand their ground without being arrogant. Men who listen deeply, act in service of a cause greater than themselves and pass on wisdom to the next generation. This is very special opportunity for a group of men to work with Mobius Senior Expert, psychotherapist, and author Paul Dunion, along with Mobius Transformational faculty members Thomas Halbeisen and Paul Zonneveld.

UNICEF defines life skills as abilities that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. And yet our formal educational systems rarely touch on these. What are the three life skills we need to teach children? This is a wonderful TEDxfrom Mobius Friend and coach Ariane de Bonvoisin where she answers this question. It's also a great introduction to a joyful book series and card game designed to equip children (and adults) with more life skills. For more information about the card game, visit kidquest. “According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, perceptions acquired before the age of six, become the fundamental subconscious programs that shape the character of an individual's life. Young kids make conclusions about everything, how smart they are, what they should do with their life, success, their bodies, who they are, but especially how lovable they are.” We are delighted to recommend these wonderfully designed resources for families, friends, teachers and mentors to young people.
To follow Ariane for regular podcasts and articles about conscious parenting, you will find more information on her website.
