IN MEMORIAM
Edgar Schein
March 5th, 1928 - January 26th, 2023
Mobius mourns the passing of Edgar Schein, a luminary in our field and wise elder of all process facilitators and interventionists. We send our condolences to his son Peter who carries on his work and all his family and the many close colleagues and students of his worldwide.
We are honored to have had both Edgar and Peter as panelists at the 2019 Next Practice Institute's annual gathering and gratefully share the recording below if you want to get to know his work, moderated by Mobius Senior Expert Zander Grashow.
An outstanding introduction to the work we do at Mobius Executive Leadership. Michael Trugman talks with our Chief Executive Amy Elizabeth Fox about the evolution of her life’s work and the insights that inform our pioneering approach to developing leaders capable of creating the depth of change required today. They discuss our proprietary methodology Winning from Within in depth before turning to the two big secrets in corporate life.
Projection is one of our mind’s secret strategies for protecting us from facing things we dislike about ourselves. In this recent piece in Forbes, Mobius Chief Thought Leader Erica Ariel Fox explains how blame works against you in the workplace. When we understand projection, “Conflicts get less messy. They get unstuck. Then they can resolve as the common, solvable business challenges they often are.”
In this recent article in HBR, authors Lisa Zigami and Julie Diamond offer practical advice to help leaders reframe difficult to discuss issues such as conflict between two team members, or an underperforming employee. “The art of framing a conversation [helps] people organize their thoughts, feelings, and experiences to come to a solution. This article offers a five-step process around framing, to show how to bring the ‘undiscussables’ into the light.”
We highly recommend this series of short podcasts – each under fifteen minutes where On Being host Krista Tippet highlights four wisdom principles applicable to all of us working in the fields of transformational leadership and which feature in our Winning from Within methodology.
Seeing the generative story of our time
Living the questions
Taking a long view of time, and becoming “critical yeast”
“The best way to conduct oneself can be observed in the behavior of water.”
- Tao Te Ching
Coach, facilitator and mediator Denise Blanc’s book distills seven principles she has studied and practiced in an in-depth exploration of overcoming resistance in our work and relationships by adopting more “river logic.” The book brings together practical exercises, stories, insights, and findings gathered from a wealth of scientists, psychologists, wisdom teachers and expert river guides.
As Mobius Chief Executive Amy Elizabeth Fox wrote in her testimonial, “This ground-breaking book is an incredible contribution to our field. Own Your Armor reveals with great clarity and precision the fundamental drivers of dysfunctional behaviors on teams, the common interpersonal conflicts in the workplace, and the pervasiveness of fear in corporate life. Wise and compassionate, it offers an accessible understanding of psychological defenses, how they are evoked by modern day workplaces and can lead to toxicity on teams.” Available now in paperback and on Kindle, this a masterclass in team dynamics told in illustrations to help spot and repair toxic team dynamics.
An outstanding piece of cello music from the gifted Jami Sieber who joins us at this year’s gathering of the Next Practice Institute. Jami reaches inside the soul with compositions that are contemporary, timeless, lush, and powerfully evocative. Her life-long commitment to the environment, social justice, and the healing arts is at the heart of her music, reflecting a deep dedication to the arts as a medium to express the interconnectedness of all beings.
An Online Training starting February 28 and running on consecutive Tuesdays throughout March, this is a highly interactive immersion into intervening in systems with Mobius Transformational Faculty Mieke Jacobs and Paul Zonneveld.
