Welcome to the February edition of what to read, watch, and listen to in transformational leadership and organizational change. In this issue, we feature resources, special offers, and new thought leadership from master practitioners and pioneers in their field – several of whom will join the eighth Annual Gathering of the Next Practice Institute, which takes place October 19-24 this year. Registration opens soon. Several items in this month's newsletter speak to the sweeping global change we are witnessing. As these changes necessitate the breakdown of structures and their traditions, it has become urgent to envision the most promising pathways through the complex challenges we face together. As always, we welcome you to like and share this newsletter with colleagues and friends.

A Must-Watch: Adaptive Leadership for the Future

As we grapple with an extraordinary acceleration of change and complexity, we are eager to share this exceptional resource for reflection, wisdom and direction. Click here to read the transcript or watch the video of Mobius Master Transformational Faculty member Thomas Huebl in conversation with Mobius Senior Expert Zander Grashow – author, artist, and thought leader in Adaptive Leadership. They discuss the type of leadership needed as humanity faces unprecedented social and technological change. As Zander puts it, "To meet this moment, we need to dismantle broken and corrupted systems, develop new social and relational skills, and collectively re-imagine the future we want to work towards. We must not lean into despair and disengagement."

The Catalytic Power of Radical Engagement
In anticipation of his forthcoming book, the pioneering systems thinker, peace mediator, and co-founder of Reos Partners, Adam Kahane, is sharing a series of 7 everyday habits for transforming systems. In the run-up to the April publication date of his new book, Adam releases a new habit each week on LinkedIn. Explaining this week's habit – working with cracks, he writes, "Systems often seem solid and unchangeable—but they are not. They are built, and they collapse. They crack and are cracked, which opens up new possibilities. Radical engagement involves looking for, moving toward, and working with these cracks." Follow his posts on LinkedIn for all seven habits. We had the privilege of hosting Adam Kahane as a keynote presenter at the 2017 gathering of the Next Practice Institute. We invite you to watch his inspiring talk, Collaborating with the Enemy. His ideas remain relevant if not more so today. Special Note: If you are reading this newsletter in time, Adam is hosting a FREE WEBINAR on Thursday, 27 February, 10 AM EST.

We Cannot Outrun Our Biology

This article from Mobius Senior Expert Parneet Pal and Martin Reeves takes a “multi-systems” view of a business. They illuminate the biological impact of our work environment on our cellular biology and what this means for decision-making on the job. Beyond the much-discussed issues of time and location flexibility, the moment has arrived, they argue, for organizations to reconsider how work is structured and managed. They suggest three steps for leaders to optimize the links between the human body and organizational effectiveness. We are delighted to welcome Parneet, a Harvard and Columbia-trained physician-education and founder of Systemically Well, as a keynote presenter at the October Annual Gathering of the Next Practice Institute.  Tap to read now.

March-December 2025

There are multiple ways to join this brilliant festival experience hosted by our partners, House of Beautiful Business and the Acosta Institute, along with the Holon Institute.  The PolyOpportunity presents a novel, co-creative, hope-infused approach to the so-called polycrisis, where we take as a galvanizing premise that everything changing now is both interrelated and for the better. "If we pull on all threads of hope (Opportunities) and develop the meta-skills (Powers) to weave them together, we can realize the PolyOpportunity—a new way of sensing, thinking, and leading beyond what’s next." Pick and choose, or participate in all the gatherings across four continents, a 12-week digital learning journey, and online public forums. To learn more, tap here.

June 26-July 6

We wish to share with you a new offering from our alliance partners at Trailhaven, perfectly suited to the kind of reflection this moment invites, if not demands, of all of us.  This is a beautiful opportunity to explore: What is this time asking of you? What is your individual and collective responsibility to tend to our communities, cultures, and planet? How can your personal and professional leadership be rooted in wholeness and integrity? Significant life transitions invite our hearts, minds, and bodies to open to new ways of being. This 10-day program is a ceremony to explore and celebrate your commitment to yourself, your dreams, your communities, and the wider world. It is based on the vision fast ceremony – a contemporary rite of passage that aims to meet the archetypal human impulse towards initiation, rooted in the lineage and teachings of the School of Lost Borders.
