IDEAS WORTH SHARING

what people get wrong

What People Get Wrong About Psychological Safety

“Psychological safety—a shared belief among team members that it’s OK to speak up with candor—has become a popular concept. However, as its popularity has grown, so too have misconceptions about it.” Read or listen to this piece just published in the Harvard Business Review. The article outlines six common myths surrounding psychological safety, the ground-breaking work of Amy Edmondson. The Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at the Harvard Business School, and a Mobius Senior Expert, Amy Edmondson, and co-author of this article, Associate Professor at Harvard, Michaela Kerrissey, remind us that, “Ironically, talking less about psychological safety and more about the goal and the context and why everyone’s input matters is the first step in building psychological safety.”

the hidden power of unanswerable questions
The Hidden Power of Unanswerable Questions

A question is a way of opening the mind, rather than filling it, writes Mobius Master Transformational Faculty member Dr. Shai Tubali. He reminds us that “Questions thread through our conversations, drive our curiosity, and shape our focus … [perhaps] a question’s value lies not in the answer it produces but in the space it creates for reflection and insight.” Shai's thought piece celebrates the many traditions and philosophies that have given us a way of working with questions to gain fresh insight, drive innovation, and to practice and embody deeper forms of wisdom.

On Nothing In Particular

On What Chaos Asks of Us

Mobius is proud of the many contributions to thought leadership being made by our Senior Experts on how to navigate complex times and what happens when the world and the challenges we need to address cross the threshold from complex to chaotic. We share this short piece from Amy Elizabeth Fox, our CEO and Co-Founder, who shared this reflection in her series of LinkedIn articles. Read here

SPOTLIGHT ON FACULTY THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

trauma
Trauma — What is it that everyone is talking about and why it matters we pay attention.
Mobius Senior Expert and long-time somatic trauma practitioner  Jennifer Cohen’s recent article should be required for anyone wanting to become a trauma-informed practitioner or a healer in their leadership role. In it, she explains, “Trauma is everywhere — woven into our lives, our relationships, and our organizations. In this piece, I share what I’ve learned about being trauma-informed: what it is, what it isn’t, and why it matters so deeply for those of us called to lead, coach, and hold space for others. My hope is that it sparks reflection, compassion, and a commitment to move through the world with greater care.” We are delighted that Jennifer rejoins the faculty for the 2025 Annual Gathering, where she will lead a week-long immersion in Somatic Coaching & Healing with Mobius transformational faculty member and somatic coach Jennifer Krier. This track has been specially designed for newcomers and experienced somatic practitioners alike. Participants will learn to distinguish between stagnations in the body and our core impulses, and have the chance to free constrained energy.  Somatic practice opens the door to greater flow, resilience, and alignment with purpose.  Those who sign up for this track will leave with a step-by-step somatic process for meeting defenses with care and respect.

making peace with the uknown-1

Making Peace With the Unknown

Mobius Senior Expert Dr. Paul Dunion’s April article in Psychology Today suggests antidotes to our typical reactions to navigating the immensity of the current ambiguity. “The domestication of the unknown by routine, repetition, and dogma has begun to quake,”  he writes. As global instability and unpredictable leaders have many of us gripped by angst, Paul encourages us to view this as an opportunity to examine our relationship to Life. He offers ten practices to “stabilize our relationship” with the unknown. We are delighted to confirm that Paul will rejoin the faculty for this year’s Annual Gathering of the Next Practice Institute in October. The track he will lead with Andrea Winter, both Senior Mobius Transformational Faculty members, is back by popular demand. While we are taught to be externally referenced, identifying with the values and expectations of family, teachers, coaches, and leaders, this week-long immersion will focus on

The Power of Being Internally Referenced. Self-awareness, self-trust, self-loyalty, and self-love will be considered as Paul and Andi guide participants to move into the inquiry involved in deep intimacy with the self.

From Pyramids to Circles – the shift from hierarchy

In this taster edition of Mickael Drouard’s podcast, where he speaks with select leaders and change makers who are evolving organizations from hierarchy to empowerment, he revisits what he has learnt from the first twenty-five episodes of the series. Mickael reflects on the reasons organizations are now pushing past the limits of hierarchy (including attracting, retaining, and motivating the next generation of leaders) and what it takes to do so. We are delighted that Mickael will join this year’s faculty, along with Stefan Ekwall, to offer a week-long exploration of the inner capacities required to elevate the energy of a group and how to design and scale decentralized structures that enable Collective Intelligence to emerge and flow. The week-long practice and study will be enhanced by River – a groundbreaking, wisdom-guided AI which offers previously unseen possibilities in organizational learning. Listen to Mickael's podcast here.

          everything is waiting for you

Associate Fellow at Mobius, the internationally renowned philosopher-poet David Whyte, will offer his next Three Sundays series on May 11, 18, and 25. These are wonderful explorations to nourish the mind and the soul, with recordings available to all those who cannot join live. In anticipation of this latest series, David writes, “deep, prolonged attention has transformed my own life, so many times, and at such crucial thresholds. Everything is an invitation to something larger and more generous. Everything in today’s world can also be a distraction, breaking us and our lives into fragmented pieces, dissipating our powers and rendering us fretful and anxious: the difference between those two lives lies in our ability to pay profound attention in silence to everything that approaches and surrounds us. Deep and prolonged attention grants rest and recuperation, turns seemingly besieging forces into opportunities and transforms far-off hopes into immediate possibilities. Above all, prolonged attention makes us friends with the world again and with those who inhabit it." Register here.
